What’s a Splat?*

splat
SPLAT: 1. Name sometimes given to the asterisk (*) character (ASCII 0101010). This may derive from the ‘squashed-bug’ appearance of the asterisk on many early line printers.

The idea started with Phil*, but philasterisk.com is too, I don’t know, LONG, unattractive, not… enough.   Yeah, I know, Splat’s probably too much.

But that’s the story.  So it looks like a bug getting squished.  Cool.  Splat.

Why an asterisk?  Well the first idea was this:  a by-line indicates the ‘talent’, the author.  I think it’s appropriate to footnote with the notion that I (we) usually are standing on the shoulders of giants.
